Creator Economy refers to the side hustles of independent creators on various social media platforms, where they showcase their knowledge and skills and develop their influence over the society. I would call it a technology enabled phenomenon. Yes, the era of internet has made creator economy a thing and not just any thing, it's the next major business phenomenon on the face of earth and it's here to stay. Creator economy gave rise to another term called "influencer marketing". Earlier a relatively small number of big companies ran the market. It was easy to use the star power and attract huge chunks of crowd. These companies dominated most of what we read, watched or listened to with fixed timings of shows, tv programs. This type of a model gave birth to various stars, people who eventually became out of reach of the common man but had a great influence on us.

Then what changed?

Well, we got the internet that led to creation of various social platforms, where the commoners had the opportunity to talk to the world in an unscheduled manner. YouTube came in and allowed thousands of people to tell share their knowledge and skills with the world. Twitter entered and gave a chance to us to write our story and let the world read it. Various other platforms have emerged in recent times, Instagram for example has become a hub for small time influencers. Twitch is another great example where gamers could show off their skills. With all these platforms, now individuals, people like you and me were creating content and developing a niche following for themselves. This gave an opportunity to brands to pierce the market like never before and hence influencer marketing came into picture and the economy the major brands were now driven by these small time creators on various social platforms and not only by the stars of bollywood or sports anymore.
